Keaton Fenwick - Design, Arts, and Technology Capstone Research Post 5

From Setbacks to New Beginnings
If there's one thing filmmaking teaches you, it's how to adapt.

As excited as I was to complete my capstone film project, the weather had other plans. Unfortunately, after battling unpredictable conditions and weighing the costs of continued delays, I had to make the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of filming.

As the director, it is my job to ensure the safety of my cast and crew over anything. But this isn't the end of the story, it's just a new beginning.

Rather than letting the project die on the vine, I'm pivoting. My capstone will now evolve into a TV series proposal. Instead of a completed short film, I will be presenting a detailed outline, a full script, posters to visually pitch the concept, and a short teaser trailer to bring it to life. This way, all of my work previously and even the filming I had already done won't go to waste.

This shift actually opens up some exciting creative opportunities. And to make sure I am creating a compelling proposal; I've been diving into research and using some great online resources to guide me.

Crafting a Strong TV Series Proposal
Thanks to INK's TV Proposal Guide, I have learned the key components of a professional series proposal, including how to properly pitch the show's concept, characters, plot arc, and episode breakdown. This resource has given me a clear template to follow, ensuring my proposal will look polished and industry-ready rather than feeling like a patchwork last-minute project.

Designing Eye-Catching Posters
For the visual side of the proposal, I'm creating promotional posters that represent the tone and aesthetic of the series. Vistaprint's guide on poster design has been incredibly helpful. It broke down the basics of composition, color theory, typography, and visual hierarchy, all essentials for grabbing attention and conveying professionalism in a simple glance. With this knowledge, I feel more confident that my posters will not only look good but will also sell the series concept effectively

Producing a Captivating Teaser Trailer
To top it all off, I am creating a short teaser trailer to visually introduce the series' world and hook potential viewers (or producers). I found a fantastic guide from C&I Studios that explained how to structure a trailer, from building intrigue, showcasing characters, hinting at conflict, and ending with a memorable hook. Their advice emphasized pacing, tone, and the strategic use of music and sound design, all of which I'll be applying as I put together my trailer.

Looking Ahead
While it is bittersweet to let go of the original plan, I'm genuinely excited about where this pivot is leading. This experience has taught me about resilience, creative flexibility, patience, and the importance of thorough research when stepping into new territory.

I can't wait to share the posters, teaser trailer, and full TV proposal once they're completed. What started as a challenge is quickly turning into one of the most valuable learning experiences of my journey and life so far.
